Attack on Titan: Part 1

This is the live action analog of the incredible anime adapted from the original, and highly popular, manga. On the surface, the story is perfect for a film treatment. But, the shift from manga to anime had already distilled the story down to fit it into 25 episodes. Narrowing that down to a 3 hour movie (broken into 2 parts) required focusing the story even more. The result reduced the complexity, and lost relationships, motivations, backstory… everything that made the first two presentations so good.

What is left is a thin, incomprehensible, watery gruel, despite some great art production that captured the look and feel of the originals. I can’t even comment on the performances because they had so little to work with, they were barely better than sock puppets.

Yes, skip it.
