For quite a while now, Hogfather has been my favorite holiday film. It is irreverent and twisted, but fun. Rare Exports may have just passed it… at least for a single viewing. I suspect Hogfather is more rewatchable, but Rare exceeds it on first watch from a simple WTF point of view.
If you’re looking for a truly evil take on a Christmas tale without going all out gore (like Silent Night, Deadly Night), but still manages to capture both the sense and reality of Christmas, this may be your answer. It isn’t perfect, but it is wonderfully done and full of humor and shocks.
When you’re done, watch Hogfather as well, if you never have. The two will definitely add some new flavors to your Christmas holiday, whether you celebrate or not.
